Improving Performance with Speaker Stands

Speaker stands are an unique little niche within the audio world. Many include features like adjustable height and a way to conceal the wire used for hook up. Although speaker stands can be considered furniture, they perform a couple of vital chores. They raise the speaker to an appropriate height. And they remove excess energy from the speaker enclosure. It is believed that optimum performance occurs when the speakers are at the level with the listener’s ears. Effective speaker stands improve the bass response and clean up the sound by providing isolation from vibration.

Further improvements and enhancement may be possible by adding spikes to the base of the stands to isolate the stand from the floor. Additionally, placing sound absorbing pads to isolate the speaker from the stand may add focus to the speakers.

Speaker manufacturers may have their own line of speaker stands to pair with their speakers. Harmon Kardon speaker stands (sometimes misspelled Harman Karden speaker stands) have stand for select speakers. Usher speaker stands are also available for Usher speakers. And there are JBL speaker stands.  You don’t have to mate your speakers with any particular stand, although some might feel that the a stand made for a specific speaker might better suit it. Some have taken up building their own speaker stands using free plans for speaker stands that can be located on the web.

Speaker stands are not an overlooked component of audio systems by serious audiophiles. There are thousands of searches on the web each month for these audio stands. Below is a list of just some of the searches audio consumers are using to find info on audio stands.
