Waterproof Stereo Speakers
Weather Resistant Designed Speakers
There are several applications for which waterproof stereo speakers may be intended. Whether for marine (boating), home outdoor, motorcycle or by the pool, weather resistant speakers are design to fight off the elements. A harsh environment may wreak havoc on ordinary speakers. Buying speakers engineered to be weather resistant and waterproof should be a wise investment for years to come.
Marine environments can be especially corrosive, so stereo speakers should be well constructed to be weather and corrosive resistant. Various companies produce marine audio equipment. A few include:
- JBL Marine
- Kenwood
- Sony
- Jenson
- Jenson
- Dual
- Poly-Planar
JBL offers a 6″ x 9″ two-way marine speaker with a waterproof motor structure and sealed polypropylene woofer making it an ideal contender for marine use. Poly-Planar applies technology which it claims eliminates the problem of speaker magnets affecting navigation equipment. Kenwood speakers are tested for UV light, salt, fog and temperature. Many of these companies offer cd receivers suitable for marine applications.
Outdoor speakers designed to be weather resistance may also be multi-purpose, allowing for indoor use. Some indoor uses may include rec room speakers or satellite speakers in a surround sound set-up. These indoor/outdoor speakers quite often come with brackets for wall or other mounting. The cabinets are made with durable materials and the drivers are moisture resistant. Waterproof speakers for the yard or garden use may be designed to blend with the surroundings. Rock speakers (which are designed to look like a large stone, not for use with Led Zeppelin, although, that’s up to each individual J) blend in with the landscape. They are nice for walkways, ponds, backyards and around pools. The more traditional cabinet style enclosures are generally used for patios, porches and decks. If wiring is a problem, a wireless outdoor speaker may be implemented. Acoustic Research’s wireless outdoor speaker uses patented 900 Mhz technology in an omni- directional water-resistant design.
Remember, weather resistant or waterproof stereo speakers can save money. You might be throwing money down the drain using speakers not engineered for outdoor or moist conditions. Heat and UV light also takes a toll on speakers in outdoor environments. Speaker grills must be hardy for the conditions. Enjoying great sound outdoors or damp environments need not be an elusive goal. Weather resistant and waterproof speakers will provide audio in these applications.
