Audioholics’ review of the Boston Acoustics RS 334
:
The Reflection Series speakers (indicated with the RS nomenclature in the model number) is a fairly new offering from the venerable manufacturer. Boston was looking to create “Good, Better, Best” lines of speakers.
The Boston RS 334 speakers came individually boxed and well protected. Each box clearly outlined what was in it so if you are having these speakers shipped, you might want to make sure you are home to sign for them.
These speakers were mated with a lot of different gear. First and foremost most of the critical listening tests were done with the Denon DVD-3910 driving the analogue only Emotiva RSP-1/RPA-1 combo.
For measurements, I used TrueRTA with a Behringer ECM8000 mic and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro external soundcard. For amplification I used a Sherbourn 2/75B amp.

Klipsch Center Channel
Klipsch RC-10 Delivers Maximum Clarity and Efficiency
Adding a new value point to the best-selling Reference Series, the Klipsch RC-10 center channel speaker is part of the new Reference 10 family. The RC-10 center channel has the same technology and materials as the Reference III center channels while providing a smaller enclosure and lower cost.
The Klipsch RC-10 is magnetically shielded to prevent video interference. It utilizes a Tractrix Horn titanium driver dome compression tweeter for detail and clarity output. The Dual Cerametallic woofers also maximize clarity. The cone woofers’ tapered array alignment add to the clear expression. Front ports and adjustable tilting allow for maximum flexibility for placement. Of course, the Klipsch RC-10 center channel provides high sensitivity and power handling.
In case you were wondering about tapered arrayed configuration, Klipsch’s Tapered-Array™ Technology is a 2.5-way design that minimizes the acoustical interference between drivers that plagues most horizontal center-channel speakers. The result is a clear, smooth sound on both sides as well as directly in front of the speaker. The technology uses both woofers to create vivid bass, while only one woofer works with the tweeter to produce midrange.
The RC-10 4″ woofers have the distinctive Klipsch copper-color and Cerametallic™ material featuring anodized aluminum The anodizing process converts their inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a strong and dent resistant, rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer’s operating range. The tweeter is a 1-inch titanium-dome compression driver loaded with a 4-inch square Tractrix® Horn.
Klipsch Reference Series speakers are wired internally with Bandwidth Balanced™ Monster® Cable. Bandwidth Balanced technology employs multiple gauges of high-purity copper wire, carefully selected and wound to ensure optimum signal transfer at all frequencies. On the back of each speaker are two sets of binding posts, one feeding the tweeter and the other the woofers. For conventional wiring, these sets are connected together with gold-plated metal straps, which must be removed for bi-wiring or biamping.
While it’s difficult and challenging to make a modestly size, horizontally arrayed loudspeaker, the Klipsch RC-10 easily carries on the Reference Series’ high-performance legacy.

The THX Ultra2 family comprises the option of using one of two models for the left, center and right (LCR) front speakers The Klipsch THX Ultra II owner’s manual states that normally the LCR array would be either all KL-650-THXs or all KL-525-THXs, but the center speaker can be different from the left and right speakers. (For example, you might combine a pair of KL-650-THXs for the front left and right with a KL-525-THX for the center.) This system was built for versatility, so any combination of the sonically matched LCR speakers will deliver seamless performance, and the LCRs may also be used as surrounds. Also in the family are two KS-525-THX surrounds, two KW-120-THX subwoofers and one KA-1000-THX subwoofer amplifier. These models can be assembled in a variety of combinations including a true THX Ultra2 system in a 7.1 configuration, which consists of three KL-650-THX LCRs, two KL-525-THX LCRs, two KS-525-THX surrounds. The smaller KL-525-THX LCRs serve as rear center speakers. This lay out might resemble the following configuration:
The KA-1000-THX Amplifier can be handily placed near the rest of the system’s electronic gear. It has a black finish with a machined aluminum front panel and knobs. The amplifier employs professional style NL2 Speakon outputs for the high current transference of power to the subwoofer. It is able to deliver 1000-watts into a 4 ohm load. The KA-1000 can also support two high performance subwoofers and has a left and right RCA pass-through.
In achieving a big step up in performance for home theater installation, the Klipsch THX Ultra2 system proves that big movie theater sound can come in a convenient take home size. In fact, immediately after releasing for sale the Klipsch home theater THX Ultra2 proved to be a runaway success.
Stereo Speakers For Living Rooms Ideas
Loudspeaker Options Exist for the Living Room
Choosing stereo speakers for living rooms entails many factors. Living rooms are the central area in most homes, so many people want loudspeakers that are unobtrusive or add to the décor. Fortunately stereo speakers come in all possible sizes. Many of the most expensive stereo speakers are eloquent and will do justice in many living rooms.
Sometimes the speakers in a home theater system have to meet with the approval a spouse, otherwise known as the spousal approval factor or SAF. Options at time like these might be cube speakers which can be discretely placed. A system featuring the Bose jewle cube speakers will be one alternative for those bulky speakers that are out of the question due to SAF. The Bose Acoustimass systems all feature cube speakers. With diligent searching you may find the lowest price on Bose Acoustmass 10 speakers.
Not all are concerned with speakers that will virtually disappear in their living rooms. Speaker cabinets come in all sorts of configurations. Small bookshelf stereo speakers, floorstanding tower speakers and MTM designs that use speakers stands are among the stereo speakers that can adorn living rooms and blend in with the décor quite nicely. Which loudspeaker one chooses depends on the room size, budget and personal taste.
In-wall or ceiling stereo speakers for living rooms are an alternative to loudspeakers with cabinets. Installation and wiring aside, in-wall and ceiling speaker have an advantage over traditional loudspeakers when it comes to space requirements. Of course, the additional cost factor for installation should be considered. If a good value can be found with discount in wall speakers then the extra expense will be somewhat offset.
Bottom line, living rooms can be every bit as nice as areas with out audio gear or stereo speakers. Adding modern audio cabinets or attractive speaker stands for rear surround speakers may compliment the décor of any living room. Remember that after deciding which loudspeaker configuration is best for you, the most important task is to fine which stereo speakers or home theater speakers are the most pleasing sonically.
