So you are ready to enter the world of authentic cinema surround sound for the home. The award winning Klipsch home theater THX Ultra2 set-up is regarded by many as a surround sound system that will bring the big-screen cinema sound experience to your home. Like all Klipsch products, the ultra speakers feature Klipsch Tractrix® Horn-loaded Technology– the guiding design for the first Klipschorn® developed in 1946 and for all Klipsch horn speakers that have followed. Horn-loading (horns) allows your speakers to deliver high sensitivity, low distortion, flat frequency response and wide dispersion, which translates to unequaled power, detail, and dynamics, the hallmark of “The Klipsch Sound.”

The THX Ultra2 family comprises the option of using one of two models for the left, center and right (LCR) front speakers The Klipsch THX Ultra II owner’s manual states that normally the LCR array would be either all KL-650-THXs or all KL-525-THXs, but the center speaker can be different from the left and right speakers. (For example, you might combine a pair of KL-650-THXs for the front left and right with a KL-525-THX for the center.) This system was built for versatility, so any combination of the sonically matched LCR speakers will deliver seamless performance, and the LCRs may also be used as surrounds. Also in the family are two KS-525-THX surrounds, two KW-120-THX subwoofers and one KA-1000-THX subwoofer amplifier. These models can be assembled in a variety of combinations including a true THX Ultra2 system in a 7.1 configuration, which consists of three KL-650-THX LCRs, two KL-525-THX LCRs, two KS-525-THX surrounds. The smaller KL-525-THX LCRs serve as rear center speakers. This lay out might resemble the following configuration:

The KA-1000-THX Amplifier can be handily placed near the rest of the system’s electronic gear. It has a black finish with a machined aluminum front panel and knobs. The amplifier employs professional style NL2 Speakon outputs for the high current transference of power to the subwoofer. It is able to deliver 1000-watts into a 4 ohm load. The KA-1000 can also support two high performance subwoofers and has a left and right RCA pass-through.

In achieving a big step up in performance for home theater installation, the Klipsch THX Ultra2 system proves that big movie theater sound can come in a convenient take home size. In fact, immediately after releasing for sale the Klipsch home theater THX Ultra2 proved to be a runaway success.
