What are 5 way computer speakers?A few folks use the phrase 5 way computer speakers. Are they referring to a multi-channel surround sound system with 5 speakers? Or, do they actually mean a set of speakers with each speaker having the ability to produce the full range of frequencies utilizing 5 drivers to get the job done? In other words, each driver, whether it is a tweeter, woofer, or other, is dedicated to reproducing a certain portion of the audio frequency. This computer speaker design is unlikely. The speaker would, almost certainly, have a crossover network (electronic filter) separating the audio signal and sending a portion of the signal to each driver that is best suited to handle the frequencies it receives. For instance, a tweeter would receive the upper frequencies of the audio signal. 5 way computer speakers under this arrangement would drive up the cost of the speakers. More components and drivers add to the bill of materials, not to mention the complexity. Enter a subwoofer. A subwoofer is offered as a much more feasible option to acquire a full range speaker system. Mated with speakers that can reproduce the lower midrange, midrange and upper frequencies the subwoofer will deliver the frequencies needed to achieve low extended bass in the audio. When speaking of 5 way computer speakers, a 5.1 surround sound system comes to mind or 5 satellite speakers without a subwoofer. A surround sound system will bring games, movies and music to life. The setup often delivers superior sound quality. Rear speakers help immerse the listener in special effects. Rear computer speakers in the system can be wireless, eliminating long runs of speaker wire. Well known companies offer surround sound systems for computers. Bose, Logitech, Harman Kardon, JBL, and Altec Lansing are just a few that offer computer speakers. Finding a computer surround sound system with 5 speakers and a subwoofer that offers top sound quality should not be a problem. If the buyer's budget is tight, a 2.1 system might be an alternative. The subwoofer in this setup will still provide the extra kick in your games. As mentioned previously, the rear speakers in a computer surround system can be wireless. Wireless technology is not limited to rear speakers. Wireless application is available for front speakers, 2.1 systems, or a complete surround sound system. This way, all five speakers for the computer, the satellite speakers and subwoofer, are not tethered to cumbersome cables. It is worth noting that surround sound systems for computers can go beyond 5 speakers or 5.1 systems. For instance, Creative offers a 7.1 point package which takes advantage of state of the art audio. A buyer's budget will be an important factor in considering which way the purchaser will go when purchasing computer speakers. A basic system might be practical until finances support acquiring the latest, greatest state of the art technology. A moderately priced surround system with 5 satellite speakers and a subwoofer might be the mid way point the consumer will opt for if they do not want to break the bank, but prefer realistic surround audio. | ||
